A Career in Voice-Over: The Total Package!

Lesson #1: Developing a Foundation!

In this lesson, you will come to build your own basic foundation of Voice-Over technique. You will learn how to center your voice in your body... Up and In. You will learn how to breathe properly on the microphone. You will learn to utilize rhythm as a central tool to perfect your Voice-Over technique. You will learn to hear the music in every note of the spoken voice. You will come to understand that Voice-Over technique is not quite normal speech, and that Voice-Over technique is the illusion of normal speech. And you will learn to create that illusion in your own voice. The result: A voice that maintains your individuality and, at the same time, meets all the requirements of professional Voice-Over.

Lesson #2: Perfecting Your Diction ...Body Diction!

This lesson will introduce you to one of Charles Michel's most original and most useful concepts. It is a concept that invites you to improve your speech in dramatic fashion! You will learn to speak more beautifully than ever before, and yet the subtleties of the technique will keep your voice unique and true. Body Diction will help you to take into consideration the role of the microphone in producing the best possible recorded voice.

Lesson #3: Becoming a Great Storyteller and Salesperson!

Charles Michel strongly believes that, over the long haul, you will be hired more for your ability to tell a story and sell a product than you will ever be hired for the sound of your voice. This lesson will open your eyes to techniques that will all allow you, with just a few short minutes of preparation, to understand and communicate the message of any piece of copy in the most entertaining and informative ways possible.

Lessons 1-3 each begin with CD programs loaded with information, assignments, and exercises. Then each individual lesson caps off with an hour of private, recorded coaching with Charles Michel in "The Virtual Studio."

Special note: Charles Michel is firmly committed to tailoring the program to meet your needs. Consequently, in addition to the hour-long coaching sessions, he will also be available to you on a daily basis for other mini coaching sessions at no additional cost.

Lesson #4: Getting Your Act Together!

This lesson is also a private recorded session in "The Virtual Studio" during which you will put all the elements of the first 3 lessons together. Charles Michel will help you to edit, adapt, and/or write original copy that will positively and competitively reflect your skills and individuality. The written material developed in this session can act as the text for any future Voice-Over Demo.

Another special note: Throughout the entire process Charles Michel will help you experiment with and RECORD all sorts of nuanced and character voice ideas, so that you gain a firm sense of your commercial identity and range.

Lesson #5: Getting Down to Business and Making It Happen!

Once you know what you're doing (technique), and once you have defined your commercial identity (individuality), the next big step is getting out there, getting work, and making money!

This lesson begins with 4 hours of CD programs that will lead you step by step through the business aspects of your career in commercial Voice-Overs. It will help you to develop a marketing plan. A plan that does not intimidate you, because it will be a plan that suits you, your personality, your needs, and your lifestyle. This lesson also caps off with a recorded marketing planning session with Charles Michel.

Anyone in the NYC area may also choose to schedule the private recording session work directly with Charles at his midtown Manhattan studio.

The fact that Charles records each training session and then gives me a copy of the recording is also really helpful as it allows me to review the lesson at my leisure, and then practice what was learned in the lesson.

Make 'em laugh!

Week of Apr 1, 2011

Most people work hard at never appearing foolish. They avoid being “too” animated, energized, opinionated, eccentric, etc. From the onset of puberty when teenage peer pressure compels people to be “cool” and fit in, most folks live in dire fear of being laughed at, which is probably the largest obstacle in getting the winning voice… Because it blocks free exspression. Intellectually, you probably already know that if “they” laugh at you, you will not suddenly drop dead. However, you need to start to believe this at an emotional level as well. Laughter is not life threatening! So, the quickest way to get over the fear of others laughing at you is to make sure that they do!
