I first met Charles Michel through a Learning Annex course in LA, which lasted for one evening. I then signed up for his extended voiceover training which took several months. Charles is one of those rare individuals who can actually teach by example. He can demonstrate how to perform something incorrectly, then barely take a breath and do the same thing flawlessly. He is so much fun to work with!! Plus, you never know what’s going to come out of his mouth when he’s providing examples, which makes his sessions deliciously — and sometimes wickedly — hilarious!! Since I also have training as a classical musician, his musical approach to teaching voiceover technique using tone, rhythm and phrasing was particularly meaningful for me and just made me progress that much faster. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just a voiceover wannabe, I enthusiastically recommend working with Charles Michel whenever you get the opportunity because you will definitely get results!!

When you describe your voice, do you ever use adjectives like flat, loud, soft, monotone, boring, whiny, etc? If you do, please note that all of these adjectives and most others that you might use are really more about your vocal approach than your innate voice. For example, if you say your voice is loud, soften it and it’s not loud. If you say your voice is flat, add more variety of tone and it’s not flat. Almost anything that you would like to change about your voice can be accomplished by making simple adjustments in your approach. I call these adjustments…“TRIGGERS”.
